The Mitsubishi Raider pickup truck is a product from Mitsubishi Motors that was introduced in 2005. The Mitsubishi Raider filled a gap in the Mitsubishi lineup since its former pickup the Might Max was discontinued in 1996. Mitsubishi partnered with Chrysler in the US for its manufacturing. Several engine selections were offered including a 4.7 L PowerTech V8 with 230 Horsepower and a 3.7 L PowerTech V6 with 210 horsepower.
Mitsubishi Raider sales were not in keeping with expectations and the truck was not manufactured after the 2009 model year. Approximately 8200 Mitsubishi Raider pickups were sold in the US in 2007. In 2008 sales fell 64% to 2935 units.
During its day the Raider was available in two body styles, an extended cab version, and an even more spacious crew cab known as “Double Cab” with a 5-foot truck bed. Trim levels included the LS, DuroCross and XLS. Some of the distinctions for each trim level included power windows, locks, and cruise control for the LS. The middle level DuroCross model featured 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, enhanced cooling, and increased ruggedness capabilities. Even more luxury features were available for the top-of-the-line XLS. The XLS included items such as 17-inch chrome wheels, upgraded sound system, satellite radio, leather upholstery and more. Toward the latter part of the pickup’s availability some higher end options were discontinued, including the V8 engine.
When the Mitsubishi Raider was retired after the 2009 model year the vehicle was the only pickup available with the Mitsubishi brand. The Raider’s styling was in keeping with other Mitsubishi products that feature distinctive visual elements. Some critics of the vehicle faulted the V6 engine as being too weak for the required utility of the vehicle. Competing pickups in its class include the Nissan Frontier and the Toyota Tacoma.
