Denver, Colorado, June 30, 2010 - Discount Honda Acura Mitsubishi Parts today released an announcement highlighting the historical progression of Mitsubishi Motors. Mitsubishi automobile owners in need of replacement parts or accessories can go online to browse and conveniently purchase parts at www.discounthondaacuramitsubishiparts.com or at www.discount-mitsubishi-auto-parts.com.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is currently the sixth largest auto maker in Japan and the seventeenth largest in the world as measured by vehicle production. Mitsubishi Motors is part of one of the largest industrial groups in Japan.
Mitsubishi’s entry into the automobile business dates back to 1917 and the first Model A production automobile. Only 22 were built and this early car was considered expensive compared to American and European produced competitors.
In the 1970s Mitsubishi began an alliance with Chrysler. The affiliation resulted in Chrysler marketing Mitsubishi Galants as Dodge Colts. Production of the vehicle surpassed 250,000 cars. That production later grew to more than 900,000 by 1978 and further Chrysler branded offerings including the Dodge Challenger and the Plymouth Sapporo.
Mitsubishi Motors became a public company in 1988. In doing this it became the last of Japan’s eleven automobile manufacturers to end their privately held status. The capital raised by the event allowed Mitsubishi to pay off debt as well as expand in a variety of international markets including Asia.
The 1990s were an interesting decade for Mitsubishi as the company increased its presence in Japan in part by pioneering the introduction of SUVs and light trucks in that market. This upward trend continued into the mid-1990s. Mitsubishi’s Japanese domestic market share rose to 11.6 percent in 1995.
New investments enabled product introductions including a revised Mitsubishi Outlander to compete in the popular XUV market worldwide. Next generation versions of the Lancer and Lancer Evolution were launched in 2007 and 2008. Some slower selling vehicles were eliminated from the US market and manufacturing capacities were scaled back. Corrective measures allowed Mitsubishi to return to profitability in the third quarter of 2006. The company has sustained profitability with global sales over 1.5 million through 2007 and later.
